Francisca Viveros Barradas, known professionally as Paquita La Del Barrio, has passed away at the age of 77. Born on April 2, 1947, Paquita began her career in 1970 in Mexico City, performing at a local restaurant in Colonia Guerrero.
Renowned for her bold, feminist stance against Mexico’s sexist and “macho” culture, Paquita’s songs often criticized men, portraying them as “tontos y bobos” (clowns and fools), resonating deeply with female audiences.
Her iconic album Romeo Y Su Nieta earned her a nomination for the 56th Annual Grammy Awards (2013) in the Best Regional Mexican Music Album category, solidifying her place as a trailblazer in regional Mexican music.
